Cost reduction remains key problem of Belarus' housing and utilities services

On October 20, the President of Belarus will take part in a big meeting about the development of housing and communal services in the country. He is likely to pay attention to the problems of reducing costs and improving the quality of these services.

Minsk is hosting these days a seminar on improving the housing and communal services. It gathered all the structures responsible for this branch of economy. Leading experts of the industry are looking for new approaches and discussing world experience.

Alexander Terekhov, housing and communal services minister:
The most basic topic is cost reduction. There are reserves here. The results, of course, are already very serious. We understand that we can achieve even greater results. But we need investment for this. For this, it is necessary to approach the modernization of the housing and communal services in a planned way. We must reduce the cost of electricity. We understand that the provision of services today is very energy-intensive. We can significantly reduce the cost of thermal energy. But for this, again, we need investments. It is necessary to catch the best technologies that will give this effect today.

Meanwhile, Belarus has drafted a concept for the improvement and development of housing and communal services until 2025. Taking into account the discussions at the seminar, some documents can be finalized and submitted to the head of state for consideration.
