Exercises on responding to radiation accidents begin in Belarus October 18

On October 18. 2017 the largest exercises on responding to nuclear and radiation accidents begin in Belarus. Representatives of the IAEA, the CSTO, the Red Cross And specialists from foreign counties will be observing the excesses.

The idea of the drills has an unpredictable scenario. According to the legend, the participants are to extinguish fires in radiation affected areas. What is more, the system of notifying people.

About 300 people and more than 50 machine units, including four aircrafts, will take part in the maneuvers.

Alexander Khudoleev, Deputy Minister for Emergency Situations of the Republic of Belarus:
We are making the situation more difficult concerning battling work. Such situations as liquidation of emergencies when transporting radiation substances. There is another range of moments, introductory moments, which will increase the level of professionalism and will help to drill the exercises in practice.

The active phase will be held on October 19 in the Grodno region, where the future Nuclear Plant will be built.

According to the results of the drills, the emergency plan of the Belarusian Nuclear Power Plant will be amended. Such exercises are one of the recommendations of the IAEA.
