Belarus President set to discuss support for traditional family values with CIS leaders

Sochi on October 11 is hosting the summit of the heads of state of the CIS, with leaders of 10 countries taking part in it.

The event, which is also called the "Club of Presidents", promises to be one of the most significant events for the Commonwealth in 2017. It is planned that the presidents will share their opinions and develop common approaches to solving both internal problems and problems related to external challenges and threats.

The CIS, a forum of former Soviet nations grouped after the collapse of the USSR, is now seeking to adapt to moderns conditions in politics and economy. The presidents asked to include in today’s summit only the most important questions.

Yesterday the CIS foreign ministers reviewed a number of issues of international politics and economy. The Belarusian foreign minister, Vladimir Makei, asked his counterparts to pay more attention to the economic component of the CIS.

The documents on which the CIS foreign ministers worked on October 10 will be submitted for consideration to the CIS heads of state today.

One of the most important documents is expeted to be the statement of the heads of state about the support for traditional family values.

The CIS remains quite an important organization in the former Soviet space and it's quite neutral. Its basis is now economic cooperation. I think you would agree this is very important for Belarus.

Today’s summit in the CIS will become one of the most important events in the former Soviet space. The presidents will be able to assess the whole complex of matters pertaining to external challenges and threats.
