Azerbaijani defense minister: We love Belarus and respect President Lukashenko

Prospects for the development of military-technical cooperation between Belarus and Azerbaijan on 9 October were discussed as Alexander Lukashenko met with the Minister of Defense of that country, Zakir Hasanov.

The contractual and legal framework of the Belarusian-Azerbaijani relations includes more than 110 agreements.

In 2016, Belarus attracted $7.5 million in investments from Azerbaijan.

In 2018, Belarus and Azerbaijan will celebrate the 25th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations.

Our countries have long been time-tested partners in the international arena and in the economic support of each other. Military-technical cooperation is just one of the areas of cooperation.

Zakir Hasanov, Minister of Defense of the Republic of Azerbaijan:
First of all, I convey to you the best wishes from the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces. He asked you to convey big greetings and especially noted our relations, relations between you, and the international relations. Azerbaijan likes Belarus and people like you and respect your country. We have very close ties in all areas.

Alexander Lukashenko, President of Belarus:
I will not hide it, it is pleasant for me to meet with you not only as a military man, representative of the friendly army, but also as with the envoy of my very good friend and counterpart Ilham Aliyev. I would like to ask you to give him the best wishes, and I think that in the very near future we will meet, we will have the opportunity to talk on various topics.

Today, welcoming you, I want to say that we continue our cooperation, in the aviation engineering as well.

The most important thing is that I remember very well that in difficult times your president always lent a hand to the Belarusian state. We remember this very well, and we are ready, if we can do something for Azerbaijan, we are ready to do this so that your people live in safety, so that the state develops.

Over the past 10 years, Alexander Lukashenko flew to Baku four times with official visits. His Azerbaijani counterpart Ilham Aliyev visited Minsk the same number of times. Each time these meetings gave an impetus to the trade and economic cooperation between our countries.

Yevgeny Gorin, CTV:
More than 70 representative offices of Belarusian companies operate in Azerbaijan. An assembly production of Belarusian MTZ tractors and vehicles was created on the basis of the Ganja plant.

Azerbaijani also know well Belarusian optical devices, elevators and lamps. However, the economic potential of our countries is clearly higher than what we see from the current level of trade.

Zakir Hasanov:
We appreciate military-technical cooperation. First, this is excellent Belarusian quality. The Armed Forces of Azerbaijan use weapons and equipment produced in the Republic of Belarus, and with full responsibility of the Defense Minister I declare that these high-quality weapons and military equipment are successfully used in the Azerbaijani army. In this matter, we believe that we still have opportunities to expand this cooperation.

We discussed the specifics with the relevant officials.

The cooperation of the Belarusian military-industrial complex and the military (not only Azerbaijani) is a kind of positive example of a possible model of work in other areas that have not yet been mastered. Military people are more resolute than civilians. However, the political will of the presidents of Belarus and Azerbaijan has more than once created new common economic points. It is these very new points that are on the agenda of the bilateral relations now.
