President Lukashenko meets with Azerbaijan Defense Minister

The future development of military-technical cooperation between Belarus and Azerbaijan was discussed on October 9 as Alexander Lukashenko met with the Minister of Defense of that country, Zakir Hasanov.

The contractual and legal framework of the Belarusian-Azerbaijani relations includes more than 110 agreements.

Alexander Lukashenko, President of the Republic of Belarus
Today, welcoming you, I want to say that we continue our cooperation, in the aviation engineering as well. I do not want to make excuses about the character of our cooperation. I just want to say one thing: our relations in no way violate any international treaty, a resolution of the Security Council or the United Nations in general and so on.

We are a sovereign independent state and we are entitled to determine those areas of cooperation that correspond to the spirit of the times and the requests of our states. If we can do something for Azerbaijan, we are ready to do this so that your people live in safety, so that the state develops, and that Azerbaijan and its people be a prosperous state, so that the population's incomes grow, so that Azerbaijanis (they are not at all poor) become even richer. We will pursue only these noble goals.

Zakir Hasanov, Minister of Defense of the Republic of Azerbaijan:
First of all, I convey to you the best wishes from the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces. He asked you to convey big greetings and especially noted our relations, relations between you, the international relations. Azerbaijan likes Belarus and people like you and respect your country. We have very close ties in all areas.

The Azerbaijani Defense Minister highly appreciated the results of the meeting with the Belarusian head of state.

The minister added that a green light was given on all matters. In particular, this goes for the exchange of experience and military-technical cooperation.

The guest also noted the high quality of Belarusian developments in this area.

Zakir Hasanov:
We appreciate military-technical cooperation. Firstly, this is Belarusian quality - the quality is excellent. The Armed Forces of Azerbaijan use weapons and equipment produced in the Republic of Belarus, and with full responsibility of the Defense Minister I declare that this high-quality weapons and military equipment is successfully used in the Azerbaijani army. In this matter, we believe that we still have opportunities to expand this cooperation. We discussed the specifics with the relevant officials.

In 2016, Belarus attracted $7.5 million in investments from Azerbaijan. There are more than 72 representative offices and subsidiaries of Belarusian companies in Azerbaijan.
