Alexander Lukashenko to take part in active phase of West 2017 drills

Today it became known that Alexander Lukashenko will take part in the active phase of the joint Belarusian-Russian strategic exercise "West-2017".

The President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces will get familiar with the drills on the territory of Belarus.

The press-secretary of the head of state Natalia Eismont underlined: "Such large-scale Belarusian-Russian exercises are held every two years alternately in the territory of each of the countries. This time the main events are on the territory of Belarus, and all other episodes of the exercises are of secondary importance.

Therefore, it is natural that the participation of the two presidents was expected in Belarus.

By the way, we sent an invitation to Russian President Vladimir Putin, but at the moment there has been no official response. We are waiting."

She added that regardless of the format of the Russian side's participation, Alexander Lukashenko will unequivocally attend the exercises in Belarus.
