Gomel State University named after F.Skaryna joins Magna Charta Universitatum

Gomel State University named after Francysk Skaryna has joined the Great Charter of European universities - Magna Charta Universitatum. The document was signed in the Hungarian city of Pécs.

Joining the Magna Carta is an important step in the integration of Belarusian universities into the international system of higher education.

Andrei Kruk, Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs of the Gomel State University named after F. Skaryna:
We are full members of this university community, which today covers not only the universities of Europe, but also countries of the whole world. It is emphasized that universities are centers of culture and the development of science. It is the universities that should play the leading role in educating the younger generation.

The Magna Charta Universitatum was adopted in 1988 in Italian Bologna. The purpose of the document is the unification of educational systems and policies for the development of the world university community. More than 800 universities from 85 countries have already joined the principles of the Great Charter.

Two other Belarusian universities have signed the document besides Gomel State University named after Skaryna. They are the International University MITSO and the BSU.
