Skaryna stamp presented during Belarusian Written Language Day in Polotsk

Polotsk has marked the Day of Written Language with a bang.

On September 2, a large-scale theatrical performance unfolded on the main square of the city.

Numbers featuring popular artists, soloists of the Bolshoi Theater recreated on the stage the centuries-old history of the origin of Belarusian statehood - from Rogvolod to our days.

A disco gathered youth at night. Polotsk did not sleep until morning.

This is a good event for the town. Many people come, not only from Polotsk and Novopolotsk, but also from Pinsk, Vitebsk and other cities.

We are locals, we already know everything here. But when guests come, they are interested in telling something that we ourselves know.

Now numerous book exhibitions continue to work in the capital of Written Language Day. In H1 2017 alone, about 4,500 editions were published in Belarus with a total circulation of 10 million copies, so book lovers can find literature for every taste here. Not only novelties, but also stands of regional press were presented.

Vasily Zharko, Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Belarus:
The book does not go away, it is still in demand. It has changed the previous appearance: now books are beautiful outside (they catch the eye so you immediately stop) and their content is varies a lot.

Another gift of Belarus from ancient Polotsk will be an envelope with the original postage stamp "Day of Belarusian Written Language".

It depicts a portrait of Francysk Skaryna and Euphrosyne of Polotsk and the emblem of Written Language Day. The new postage stamp is adorned by the coat of arms of the town and the majestic St. Sophia Cathedral. Honored guests of the holiday solemnly cancelled the stamp.

Dmitry Shedko, First Deputy Minister of Communications and Informatization of the Republic of Belarus:
This is a small trace in the history, which we try to leave here with our fellow citizens. Therefore, for us, of course, it is very significant and very honorable. We will always strive to become participants in this kind of events, to contribute a little bit to this process.
