Written Language Day celebrated in Polotsk with Gutenberg's press on display

The day of written language is an attribute of the Independence of Belarus. The national holiday was celebrated in one of the oldest towns of Belarus - Polotsk. It was dedicated to the glorious son of this ancient town - Francysk Skaryna.

Participant of the festival:
We print on the machine, which is a prototype of the Gutenberg press. We print engravings with children, which they then cut out.

The mini printing machine was on display nearby so that kids could use it too. Machines of a larger were available at the printing yard, reconstructed from the 16th century.

An open-air museum operated on Polotsk's Svobody Square during three days. It featured 26 architectural monuments made at the scale of 1 in 30. St. Sophia Cathedral, Ecological Museum, Cadet Corps and so on. There are even those buildings that did not survive to this day.

Elena Bogdanovich, curator of the project "Town in Miniature":
This is an object called the Nikolaevsky railway station. It was located in the neighborhood Gromy and it has not survived. So this is the only place you can see it in 3D.

Polotsk is the cradle of Belarusian spirituality, the geographical center of Europe and the birthplace of the great Skaryna and Euphrosyne of Polotsk. The town, enveloped in secrets and legends, had three occasions to celebrate this weekend: the Day of Belarusian Writing, the 500th anniversary of book printing and the 1,155th anniversary of the town itself!

The stages of ancient Polotsk have become these days a kind of a runway for young Belarusian talents from different parts of the country. The CTV Channel aired the final of the national contest "Living Classics".

Violetta Budko, finalist of the contest "Living Classics":
I love speaking Belarusian. This language is pleasant to the ear. The contest " Living Classics" can help me in this work.

The CTV Channel prepared another grand event for the evening. Timed to the Day of Belarusian Written Language our TV channel organized the concert "Golden Collection of Belarusian Songs", which definitely adorned this rainy evening with all the colors of the rainbow.

Akim Tyshko, soloist of the honored collective of the Republic of Belarus of the vocal group "Pure Voice":
We are pleased to come thanks to the CTV channel. We are very grateful that you make projects during which we can perform our beloved Belarusian songs.

Taking part in the Golden Collection of Belarusian Songs were a lot of Belarusian stars, who are also famous beyond Belarus: Yadviga Poplavskaya, Irina Dorofeeva, Iskui Abalyan, Sasha Nemo, Pure Voice and many, many others.

The CTV will broadcast the TV version of the show on September 7.

Polotsk hosted the Day of Written Language for the third time. And, quite probably, that was not the last one. In 2018, it will be held in the town of Ivanovo, Brest region.
