Winners of National Literature Award announced in Belarus’ Polotsk

Polotsk is celebrating the Belarusian Written Language Day throughout the entire weekend.

Word prevails here on September 3.

Belarusian printing was founded 500 years ago. The name of Francysk Skaryna and other educators was mentioned here not once. The winners of the National Literature Award have been announced in Polotsk.

Here they are the main heroes of the Belarusian Written Language Day! The winners of the National Literature Award are receiving congratulations and applause in the ancient town of Polotsk. These authors have put their names down into the literature and history of Belarus with their works.

Printed word is everywhere here in Polotsk: various expositions, meetings with famous authors, Medieval printing machines.

One can feel himself a follower of Skaryna and print the first page of the Bible. Then send it to relatives from Polotsk in a new envelope with an original stamp (dedicated to the Belarusian Written Language Day in Polotsk).

Dmitry Shedko, First Deputy Minister of Communications and Informatization of the Republic of Belarus:
This small event in the Belarusian history, we try to preserve it together with the citizens of Belarus. Therefore, it is very important and honorable for us. We will always try to partake in such events, to contribute to it.

Ancient Polotsk… A town with a soul and a place of inspiration for millions of people.

Its heart beats on the high bank of the river Dvina near the St. Sophia Cathedral. Polotsk occupies a special place in the history of Belarus. The festival of Mediaeval culture allows to feel the atmosphere of those days and even become part of the past.

Anastasia But, CTV:
Polotsk Continues to surprise guests of the grand celebration. The bravest could fly on an air balloon or an autogiro. Just like many years ago the waves of the Dvina are carrying the true Medieval ships – drakkars.

Makar Babenko, participant of the Medieval culture festival:
It is one of the best festivals in Belarus at the moment, which unites different eras. The era of Vikings (10th century) is presented here, the 14-15th centuries are presented as well.

Polotsk residents are to get another present from the CTV Channel tonight.

Famous singers will be performing at the Golden Collection of Belarusian Songs concert: Irina Dorofeeva, Iskui Abalyan, Yadviga Poplavskay, “Chisty golos” artistic group. The TV version of the colorful show will be broadcasted on the CTV Channel on September 7, 2017.
