Day of Belarusian Written Language begins in Polotsk

The celebration of the Day of Belarusian Writing starts on September 1 under the sign of youth and the name of Francysk Skaryna, the first book printer.

In Polotsk, lovers of historical reconstruction will take part in a trip to the school of the past and also enjoy a festival of medieval culture.

A lot of projects are prepared for fans of literary and theatrical creativity. Experts on the life of the first Belarusian book printer will test their knowledge in the Skaryna Olympiad.

Nikolay Shevchuk, chairman of the Polotsk District Executive Committee:
We are waiting for guests from 12 countries, including sister cities from Russia and Germany. Also, we will welcome ambassadors from different countries, including our friends from all corners of our beautiful homeland.

In addition to the Day of Written Language in Polotsk, the 500th anniversary of Belarusian printing and the 1,155th anniversary of the town are celebrated.

The celebrations will last through 3 September.
