Belarus bags two golds at 2017 ICF Canoe Sprint World Championships

Belarusian rowers returned from Prague on August 28, where the ICF Canoe Sprint World Championships took place. Belarusian athletes won six medals, two of which are gold.

Olga Khudenko and Artem Kozyr won golds. Kudenko, by the way, won the medal in the tense fight with New Zealand's Lisa Carrington.

Olga Khudenko, women's K1 500m world champion:
So many emotions, of course, I am overwhelmed to this day. I do not understand what I did, I will hardly ever do. I did not think it was possible. I do not know... My tears is all I have inside.

Although the head coach of the Belarusian team Vladimir Shantarovich looks at the results more critically. He thinks the performance was decent but not oustanding. Now, to remain competitive on the world stage, we need to progress more quickly, he says.

Vladimir Shantarovich, head coach of Belarusian national canoe/kayak team:
If we continue with some wrong moves, these finals will start to quietly slip away from us. Therefore, you do not even know how hard we need to work during this cycle. The world does not stand still. Especially the Spanish-African bloc is rising. Today this is mainly Brazil and South Africa.
