Belarus preparing for World Cup 2018 qualifiers against Luxembourg and Sweden

The national football team of Belarus has started preparing for the World Cup 2018 qualifying matches. On August 31, Igor Kriushenko's team will play with Luxembourg. On September 3 Belarus will host Sweden at Borisov Arena.

The White Wings occupy fifth place in the qualifying tournament not having a chance for the World Cup Finals.

The upcoming rivals occupy quite opposite positions.

Luxembourg with one point is last in the standings, while Sweden is first in the group.

However, Belarus does not underestimate underdogs Luxemburg.

Igor Kriushenko, head coach of the national football team of Belarus:
It is clear that we won't have a simple match. We watched the games of Sweden, France, and the Netherlands. Luxembourg plays quite stubbornly at home, with the support of its fans. They try to defend quite narrowly, a large number of players perform defensive duties. And then they quickly go and counter.

Belarus’ 0:4 defeat in the first leg at Friends Arena was Igor Kriushenko’s first match at the helm of the White Wings. Luxemburg managed to hold Belarus to a 1:1 draw in the first leg away.
