Belarus border control blocks illegal migration channel

An illegal international migration channel to the EU countries was blocked by the Belarusian border control.

As many as four cars, in which there were 11 citizens of Afghanistan, were detained near the border. The migrants were hoping to get to Lithuania through Belarus and then to the Western Europe.

The organizers of the illegal channel were among the detained – three citizens of Belarus and two citizens of Tajikistan.

Yuri Demchenko, official representative of the State Border Committee of the Republic of Belarus:
The detained have been transferred to Smorgon border group for investigations. A criminal case has been initiated against the organizers under article 371-1, part 2 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Belarus “Organization and illegal migration, committed in collusion by a group of people”.

If the fault of the detained is proved, they are facing up to seven years in prison.
