Three Belarusians remain in US Open qualification after round 1

Belarusian tennis player Ilya Ivashka was unable to enter the second qualifying round of the 2017 US Open.

In the duel of the starting round, Ilya Ivashka lost to Argentine Facundo Bagnis almost without a fight, 2:6, 0:6 and finished the tournament. Two more Belarusians Vladimir Ignatik and Yegor Gerasimov successfully passed the first round, having beaten two other Argentines Maximo Gonzalez and Federico Coria, respectively.

In the second round of qualification, Vladimir Ignatik (166) takes on the Australian tennis player Akira Santillan (171). Yegor Gerasimov (123) will meet American Mitchell Krueger (198).

In the qualification of women's singles, Vera Lapko (188) beat Chilean tennis player Daniela Segel (229), 6:3, 3:6, 6:3 at the start and will now compete with Czech Tereza Martincová (122).

Another Belarusian Arina Sabalenka (110) lost in the first round to Camilla Rosatello (243), 7:5, 4:6, 3:6.

The best Belarusian tennis player Alexandra Sasnovich, who is 88th in the world rating, will start the tournament in the main draw.

Victoria Azarenka is missing the US Open because of the child custody dispute with the father of her boy Leo.

To get into the main draw, a tennis player needs to win three matches.
