Alexander Lukashenko shares childhood memories during working visit

On August 18, 2017 Alexander Lukashenko visited farms of the Shklov and Orsha districts. The harvesting campaign is under personal control of the President. This visit was nothing like the previous ones. Alexander Lukashenko was met in the field where he used to work being a child.

Alexander Lukashenko, President of the Republic of Belarus:
Today I have come to work in the corresponding uniform. This it truly my field. This is the field where I worked from my childhood. Who would allow you then to bring your cow to the farm’s field? I have two bright moments in mu memories. The first one is how I led the horse and hilled the potatoes. My elder cousin was with me. The field was divided into three parts; this is where the potatoes grew. We dug and hilled the potatoes across. It was noontime, very hot, flies. Horrible impressions. My youngest cousin led the horse. I was taller than him, he always had to have his arms up, and the horse was shaking its head.

All in all, the impressions are not so good, but they are very useful for the present.

A lot has changed since then. It was difficult to call the land fruitful in those days, no more than 17 hundred kilograms per hectare were harvested then. Today the grain yield is no less than 99, and the farm itself is the leader of the region.

Andrei Kuzmenko, director of OJSC “Aleksandryiskoe”:
The main factor is technology compliance in cultivating the crops. Technology discipline and qualified personnel. Of course we had problems in the sowing season; the fertilizers were not brought in time. However, the problems were solved.

Alexander Lukashenko determined his field as experimental. It is more than 500 hectares, where the methodology of cultivating crops is being tested.

Alexander Lukashenko:
Before I started working on my field today, I wanted to hear the answer from you: do we have similar things? If not, then when will we have it? A sincere and clear answer. I was informed in advance that we have no problems with wheat. We have learned how to do that, the selection allows us; we have learned to create our winter wheat seeds.

As for the yield and quality, it is not worse than the imported one.

Wheat and rye is not worse than imported ones. Taking into consideration some factors as protein load, for instance, it is even better than imported analogues.

Alexander Lukashenko:
As Nikolai Sherstnev has told me, we have no hybrid or diploid rye, which gives grain yield of nearly 90%. I t is rye of very good quality. However, the scientists say that it will be in the first year like this. I know it, because in spring I and Nikolai Sherstnev agreed to harvest the seeds of this rye and try to sew it. On the field of the President.

As many as 80% of the fields have been harvested. The Mogilev region will harvest its first million over the weekend. The northern regions are on the last place of the harvesting campaign.

Alexander Lukashenko:
We must clear the majority of fields by August 20. From my practice, the majority is when 85-87% of the fields have been harvested. However, it is necessary to continue working. I know it from my experience. What is 10%? These “tails”, some sort of fields and etcetera. This is where we begin to lose bread. Therefore, storm the 100%, before we harvest all the bread. If the weather stays as it is, even 90% is good. This is the first peculiarity. We cannot stop. Secondly, I am worried about the Minsk region. I need paces, paces and paces now. There can’t be any justification. The weather cannot stay as it is now forever. If we have wind coming from the west, we will have rains. Therefore, we need to harvest 90-92% by Monday. To do it step by step.

The second peculiarity is that the northern region has harvested only half of the fields.

The weather of this summer doesn’t stop surprising agrarians. They have little time to send the machinery from the harvesting campaign to the sewing season. What is more, the presses for hay cut.

Alexander Lukashenko:
You see, I have an experimental field- the third hay cut. The third one. I went there to cut the grass in the morning instead of doing exercises. The third hay cut is very good. If we do not take it - we will feel ashamed. We have good grasses and they need cutting.

The new combine harvester of Gomselmash is being tested in the field as well. Yuri Pogranichy is sure that this is the best combine harvester that he had ever driven.

Yuri Pogranichnu, test driver of OJSC “Gomselmash”:
The stirring column can be regulated, depending on the height and the weight of the driver. The seat is regulated by air. There is air conditioning, the seat is comfortable. All the conveniences. There is everything for the person to rest rather than suffer here.

The President recollects how he used to work in these fields.

The modern technologies cannot be compared with the ones in the past.

Alexander Lukashenko:
Belarusian combine harvesters can show the same and even better results than imported ones. However, the most important thing is the person. I knew people who worked well on “Yenisey” harvesters. And a Belarusian guy did everything on Yenisey that can be done on an imported one. So, what is the reason? There was no use from that Yenisey, it was taken off the production line. May be you made it? No? Thank God for that. Therefore, it is the person who is important.

The President was offered to test the combine harvester straight in the field.

An experience agrarian was the combiner; Nikolai Lukashenko sat on the seat nearby. By the way, he visited these places from the very childhood, therefore, the love towards these fields descended to him.

By the way, Nikolai harvested his first 5 tons on August 18.

These are the fields of the Vitebsk region. Journalists met the President with questions about the new agricultural machinery. The President decided to give an improvised masterclass on harvesting grain, despite the positions and professions.

Alexander Lukashenko:
You do it once, twice, three times. This is how you pick it up and put it down.

The journalists presented a photograph of the flagman of machine engineering on the field to the President.
