How climate in Belarus has changed over past 20 years

Alexander Begansky, head of the department of short-term weather forecasts, unfavorable and dangerous phenomena of Belgidromet service, has given an interview to the TV program Big City. He told us how the climate has recently changed in Belarus.

Oleg Stepaniuk, CTV:
Is there a notorious climate change now? Do you observe it or is it only idle speculation?

Alexander Begansky, head of the department of short-term weather forecasts, unfavorable and dangerous phenomena of Belgidromet:
Well, we should not underestimate it. Of course, the changes are noticeable and, perhaps, obvious. First of all, we can say this about the winter period. Belarus now has short winters in terms of snow cover.

While earlier - even 10-20 years ago - we had snow from December to March, now we see it during 1.5-2 months, like during last winter.

That is, snow lies during a fairly short period of time and it's not that high anymore.

We now can notice that even September is almost like a summer. The temperature is somewhere close to August, despite the fact that it should already be colder.

That is, 30+ temperatures are already observed even in September. Changes in the climate are obvious and we can unequivocally state that.
