Unique ancient construction drawing found in Polotsk

Sensational discovery: a fragment of the construction drawing was found on the site of the excavation of the ancient temple and burial vault in Polotsk. The artifact dates back to the 12th century. This is the first find of an ancient architectural design.

Historians assumed that medieval architects did not use construction drawings at all, and the earliest known similar pattern dates back to the 13th century.

Therefore, the document can change the view of scientists on the history of Old Russian architecture.

Experts emphasize that the drawing was made by a high-class master. The drawing of the temple tomb has the correct proportions reflecting the dimensions of the building as well as accurately displays the thickness of the walls. The drawing was made on raw clay, after which it was burned.
