Belarus marks 500th anniversary of book printing August 6

The anniversary of Belarusian book printing. On this day exactly 500 years ago Francysk Skaryna printed the first book in the Belarusian language in Prague. By doing that he made a technological and cultural strive.

The Bible of Polotsk doctor became the first printed edition of the eastern Slavs. It was published nearly 50 years earlier than the translations into the English and the French languages. From then on another 20 tomes of the famous master appeared in Prague, all of them a richly illustrated with introductory notes and epilogues. The 500th anniversary of Belarusian book printing has international importance and is included into UNESCO memorable dates.
