Alexander Lukashenko about Belarusian Nuclear Power Station

Serious attention is paid to building works of the nuclear plant in Belarus. The issue was discussed at the meeting of Alexander Lukashenko with Aleksei Likhachev, the director of Rosatom on July 24, 2017.

The Ostrovets Nuclear Power Station is among the national projects of Belarus and is paid due attention to. President Lukashenko knows the details of the building works. The main demand is safety of the station.

The energy blocks as in Belarus, successfully work in the Novovoronezh and Leningrad Nuclear Power Stations. Such blocks are being installed in Finland, Hungary, Turkey, Egypt and Bangladesh. It is a reliable project which went through all the possible expertise, on the level of international organizations as well.

Alexander Lukashenko, President of the Republic of Belarus:
It was not easy for us to decide to start building the power station after the Chernobyl disaster, there were strong phobias, but we managed to get over them, convince the people that the future stands behind it. That is on the one hand. On the other hand, these are the highest of technologies. Together with space technologies, IT, digital economy, smart technologies. The future is in them. I put the building of a nuclear power station into this list. We pay serious attention to the building works. It is enough to say that I know the details of the building plans and the progress of the works. What is more, not long ago a new advisor to the President was appointed, who is responsible for the realization of national projects. This level of the national project is at the same level together with other projects. There are about a dozen of them. These projects are very costly; therefore we pay a lot of attention to them. What is more, holding constant meetings with my colleague, President Putin, at every meeting we discuss the building works of the power station. And we attentively control not only the building process, but the price parameters as well. The President of Russia is very much so interested in the issue. He once told me, that on the example of building this power station, we will eel the real price of such projects.

Aleksei Likhachev, director general of state corporation on nuclear energy “Rosatom”:
I remembered the talk you had with the President of Russia at the end of May 2012, when the project began. You then said that the task is to build the safest and the most modern station in Europe. And Rosatom is doing everything taking into consideration your wish and order. In reality, it is a new generation on safety - 3+. There are no analogues in the world. It is the most economical approach to building, the formation together with the Belarusian colleagues of the issues of price, the price of works, and the ordered equipment. We act in accordance with our obligations, the obligations of Rosatom. To put into service the whole station in summer 2020.

The Belarusian Nuclear Power Station will consist of two energy blocks. It is planned to put the first one into service in 209, the second one in 20120. The company promises that the beginning of the next year will be a historical moment.

“Washing the pipes through” - the procedure has an important meaning- it will mark the end of the building works of the first energy block. By washing the pipes through, the specialists will check the systems of security and exploitation.

Rosatom is the biggest player on the market. In Russia alone the company is building eight energy blocks. And it occupies the first place in the world on the Nuclear Power Stations being built at the same time abroad.
