Belarus does not have geopolitical ambitions, Alexander Lukashenko says

Graduates of military universities and higher officers were honored at the Palace of Independence on July 6. Those gathered are without exaggeration the elite of the Armed Forces of Belarus. They will have to learn new methods of combating international threats and train the younger generation.

The head of state said the country should defend national interests by all available means. Without a well-trained and equipped army there cannot be a sovereign Belarus, the President emphasizes. It is the Armed Forces who are responsible for the territorial integrity and stability of the state.

Alexander Lukashenko, President of Belarus:
Belarus pursues a multi-vector foreign policy. Our country has no geopolitical ambitions. However, we must defend our national interests by all available means. I want to stress that without well-trained and equipped Armed Forces there cannot be a sovereign Belarus. They are to ensure the territorial integrity and stability of the state and adequately respond to emerging threats, no matter where they come from.

Now the optimization of the power structures is being carried out. The troops are receiving modern military equipment. The army is being rebuilt and adapted to the new conditions of war and confrontation. New Yak-130 aircraft, Mi-8 helicopters, Tor-M2 surface-to-air missile systems were delivered to the troops. We have received the multi-launch rocket system Polonez. State tests were successfully carried out on armored cars and radar stations and they are becoming part of our army too. It is you who will have to master everything new and advanced. You will have to train everyone who will be involved in these new types of weapons.

The President handed over the general's epaulettes to several representatives of the law enforcement agencies.

By tradition, Alexander Lukashenko declared gratitude for the excellent study and exemplary performance of the military duty to 16 officers-graduates.

Sergei Boris, a graduate of the Command and Staff Faculty of the Military Academy of the Republic of Belarus:
At the present stage, the Military Academy of the Republic of Belarus gives such knowledge that graduates can apply to strengthen the defense capacity of Belarus. This modern knowledge will help graduates in the future to carry out the tasks that will face the Armed Forces. The Military Academy trains servicemen for other countries as well. Our colleagues go to Russia to study, and Russians come to us.

Alexander Lukashenko called the joint strategic exercise of the Armed Forces of Belarus and Russia West 2017 a significant step in the preparation of the Armed Forces. The drills will take place in September. In total, West 2017 will bring together about 13,000 military personnel.
