Belarusians commemorate WWII victims on day of Nazi invasion 76 years ago

June 22 was the day WWII began for the USSR. Belarusians have remembered the victims of the Great Patriotic War, which is how that part of WWII is called in Soviet history.

76 years ago, Belarus was the first to repel the attack of Hitler's military machine.

Hundreds of people gathered at Victory Square in Minsk at dawn on June 22. Officers, cadets and youth honored a minute of silence of the fallen soldiers and laid wreaths and fresh flowers to the obelisk in the city center.

Belarusians cherish and remember the times when the whole nation stood against the inhuman ideology of Nazism. The Great Patriotic War lasted from June 22, 1941 to May 9, 1945.
