Eliza Orzeszkowa ball re-enacted in Belarus' Grodno

Dance classics and strict etiquette: Grodno is reviving old traditions of balls.

Polonaise, waltz, quadrille: ladies and gentlemen swirled in the dance exactly like their ancestors did a hundred years ago. The guests were greeted by Mrs. Eliza Orzeszkowa, who had a "social reception" in her house.

The theatrical performance returned everyone in the courtyard of the park to the 19th century: music, dancing and playrooms were exactly the same as during the life of the famous novelist Eliza Orzeszkowa. Master classes in choreography and etiquette added to the amazing atmosphere.

Alexandra Dolgovskaya, participant of the ball:
Who does not want to be beautiful? Of course, I agreed, of course, I went to get a feeling of the spirit of the 19th century, as everyone went. All this magnificence and beauty cannot be put into words...You feel the decency of those people and their traditions and want to be like them.

Irina Scadorva, Grodno resident:
This is a completely different atmosphere... Amazing! Very good! I saw it on the poster and I really wanted to come. I came here specifically to see all this.

Similar balls will take place in Grodno throughout the summer. This is a tribute to the famous Polish writer Eliza Orzeszkowa, who lived in Grodno. Orzeszkowa was a socialite of her time and a well-known philanthropist.
