Alexander Lukashenko: Price formation in Belarus is on special watch list

After his working visit, Alexander Lukashenko spoke to the journalists.

According to the results of a sociological research, price regulation is one of the topical issues which worries three quarters of Belarusians. President Lukashenko said that the situation with price formation in Belarus is on a special control list.

Alexander Lukashenko, President of the Republic of Belarus:
Leaping growth of prices, when the prices rise within a year, two or three, or when there is inflation of 10%, 25% or even 100%, it is not good. Such leaping fall of prices and inflation is bad as well. Yes, people come to shops and see the inflation today, 3% or 4%, it will be 6% in the year, maybe it is 6% already, we never had such an inflation. However, there was high inflation. And 20%. The tailspin of inflation and growth of prices it is bad as well. It means that those who produce have a larger income and more money. Is that right? If the prices fall, he then has a lower income and less money. People work there, they get salaries, there is prime cost, which sometimes doesn’t decrease and so on. If the prices grow, then this growth must be smooth and not high. If the prices drop, then this drop must be smooth and not rapid. It is advisory to have inflation of 3-4% every year. It is normal for life. The situation in Russia and Ukraine today is a strong drop of inflation. The prices do not grow that much. We will try to stay at this level. Because when the prices do not grow at all, it is always god, it is good for the people, the production gets used to it, the prime cost is regulated within these prices and then the profitability is good as well. However, this is what people are concerned about now. But I feel that it is only the remaining of this tension. I am sure that if we stay at this level and we are successful, people will forget about this problem in one or two year’s time.
