Belarus President names CSTO's most important tasks of modern time

CSTO member countries are able to resolve internal conflicts in the area of responsibility of the organization. This is the message Alexander Lukashenko sent to the secretaries of the CSTO Security Council.

The "Tashkent Treaty" - as this organization is also called - is an international guarantor of a stable situation in the region. In addition to military cooperation CSTO countries jointly fight against terrorism, drug trafficking, illegal trafficking in human beings and actively work in the field of protection from emergencies. As the Belarusian leader noted, in order to strengthen the international image, it is necessary to resolve some key issues.

Alexander Lukashenko, President of Belarus:
If we resolved alarming aspects and instability points in our area (I listed them in the beginning) I think the authority of our organization would grow significantly. We - it was my initiative - wanted to put these issues on the agenda for our chairmanship, but we did not dare, fearing too much scatter of opinions on these issues. Therefore it would be desirable that these issues be put on the agenda, maybe during Russia's chairmanship. We really want to solve the problems ourselves, at the table, in Minsk, Moscow, Yerevan, in other cities of the CSTO countries, so that there is no influence of other states, groups, round tables and so on . Especially since we can solve these problems: in Karabakh, in Transnistria, in Ukraine, and so on. These are our problems, we must solve them. Without foreign politburos and interventions.

All this week is held in Minsk under the sign of the CSTO. This year the organization has two jubilees at once and Belarus, as the presiding country, has prepared a number of proposals for improving the alliance of the six.

On June 15, the national delegations of Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan and the CSTO Secretariat took part in the solemn ceremony on Victory Square.

Wreaths and flowers were laid to the monument and the Eternal Flame in memory of the heroes of the Great Patriotic War.
