Belarus’ polar explorers about future breakthrough biotechnologies

The scientists of The Academy of Sciences got down to researching biomaterials which were brought by Belarusian polar explorers from the Antarctica. A team of six returned back to Belarus from one of the expeditions, which was by the way the ninth one. Hundreds of soil, plant and animal samples were gathered by the explorers. The Belarusian scientists also managed to collect samples of the sea bed with the help of distance control equipment.

Aleksei Gaidashov, head of the Belarusian Antarctica expedition:
Unique peculiarities of Antarctica microorganisms permit the scientists to say that new breakthrough biotechnologies in medicine, pharmacology and so on await humanity in the future. Many countries and the leading economies of the world invest big money in resolving this specific issue, especially in the Antarctica.

The expedition lasted for four months. The polar explorers worked on realizing as many as five programs. Among the program was the research of the ozone layer, the climate and ultraviolet radiation. The second module of the Belarusian Antarctic station was installed as well.
