Belarus President to visit Astana

Belarus President to visit Astana

Alexander Lukashenko will pay a working visit to Kazakhstan on June 8-9. The President of Belarus will take part in the meeting of the Council of the Heads of State of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, where he will voice Belarus' position on the further development of the organization.

It is expected that Alexander Lukashenko will hold in Astana a number of bilateral meetings, as well as take part in the opening ceremony of the international exhibition EXPO-2017, where the Belarusian stand will open too.

Yulia Beshanova, CTV:
These days, Astana, without exaggeration, has turned into a world capital. Two global events are being prepared. The summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization is the first one. It is expected that the participating countries, partners and observers will meet to discuss social, economic and investment cooperation. Belarus has an observer in this organization.

Experts dub the Shanghai Cooperation Organization "the new OSCE". One of the most influential organizations unites 18 countries: 6 participants, 6 observers and 6 dialogue partners. The total territory of the SCO member states is more than 60% of the territory of Eurasia, and the population is half the population of the planet. It is expected that India and Pakistan will join the organization on June 8. The observer status of the SCO gives a country significant priorities. Belarus takes an active part in all events at the highest level.

Anatoly Nichkasov, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Belarus to the Republic of Kazakhstan:
First of all, I would talk about the transit possibilities of Belarus and, in this connection, the expansion of transport cooperation. In addition, financial institutions show great interest in pooling their efforts and opportunities for investing in development. They also take part in the work of the SCO, closely monitor the program documents that the organization adopts.

It is expected that Alexander Lukashenko will take part in the work of the summit too. The president will arrive in Astana today. It is planned that the leaders of Belarus and Kazakhstan will hold a bilateral working meeting. Today, the relations between the two countries are reaching a qualitatively new level. Belarus is now mastering the "untapped" technological niches. In the last few years alone, three large Belarusian production facilities were opened in Kazakhstan.
