First hostel for tourists opens in Chernobyl

The first hostel for tourists was opened in Chernobyl, reports the Ukrainian agency managing the exclusion zone. The mini-hotel operates on the basis of the former Polesie dormitory and is designed for 100 beds.

Among the amenities are a plasma TV, a shower and free internet, so that visitors to Chernobyl can immediately share photos of themselves against the background of the abandoned town.

The exclusion zone might have become safer after a sarcophagus covered the highly-radioactive power unit No.4, which exploded in 1986.
