FC Dinamo Brest win Belarus Cup 2017 in penalty shootout

FC Dinamo Brest has won the Cup of Belarus for the second time in its history. This happened in a dramatic final battle with Soligorsk Shakhter, which took place at the Grodno stadium on May 28.

The first half was goalless but the Miners' forward Vitaly Lisakovich opened the scoring in the middle of the second half. But in 10 minutes The White-Blues from Brest managed to equalize after Alexey Legchilin's shot.

The overtime did not decide the fate of the Cup, so the penalty shootout was awarded. Both teams showed good penalty skills and iron nerves, having made nine attempts. On the tenth, Dinamo Brest's goalie Jérémy Malherbe parred Alexei Yanushkevich's shot.

Thus, the club from Brest repeated the success of 2007, when the club beat BATE in the Cup final, also in penalties. In addition to the trophy, Dinamo Brest got the right to compete in the Europa League, where they will start from the second round of qualification.

Andrei Lebedev, defender of FC Dinamo Brest:
Look how many of our fans have arrived! All of them are happy, they were waiting for this Cup. We owed them this trophy. In the championship, we are not doing very well, but we took the Cup and we will bring it to Brest. A defeat would be a grief for us, we would "mourn" for the whole year.

Vladimir Zhuravel, FC Dinamo Minsk head coach
The match was intriguing and dramatic. Who could write a better plot of this story? And that penalty shootout... I think everyone liked it, and we are happy.
