Belarusian doctors master new epilepsy treatment method

A breakthrough in neurosurgery: Belarusian doctors have mastered a new method of treating epilepsy. This operation is done only on those patients whose illness does not respond to treatment with drugs.

Doctors install a special device to stimulate the vagus nerve, which allows reducing the number of attacks to a minimum.

Belarusian neurosurgeons have already conducted two similar surgeries.

Irina Gonchar, deputy medical director, Republican Scientific and Practical Center for Neurology and Neurosurgery:
Devices, which are implanted to our patients in the field of functional neurosurgery, can cost $10,000 or even $20,000. But in Belarus, it is the state that buys all these devices for our people.

About 150,000 foreigners visit Belarusian doctors every year.

According to experts, one of the main reasons why foreigners come to Belarus for medical services is the best price and quality ratio when it comes to the medical services provided.
