Alexander Lukashenko about school start time in Belarus

Alexander Lukashenko met with school students on May 26, 2017. The meeting was held in one of Minsk’s schools in a format of a discussion. Hundreds of young people and the President discussed different issues.

The dialogue was on equal terms. Besides asking questions, school students expressed their opinions and their impressions as well. For instance, the topical issue of the school start time was discussed.

School students are for starting the school day later, but some problems arise with those who study during the second half of the day.

Alexander Lukashenko, President of the Republic of Belarus:
I heard one opinion in the morning.

My youngest son told me at 7:00am,

“You are doing the wrong thing, 9:00am is not right. How will parents take their children to school? It is not the son of the President going to school”.

Vadim Aksennik, a student of a gymnasium school:
I have friends who study during the second half of the day at other schools. The feel worried that they will be returning home late and they won’t have time to do their homework and do other things.

Alexander Lukashenko:
As many as 83% of Belarusian schools will be starting the day at 9:00am from September 1, 2017. The schools where there are two shifts will be starting the day at 8:30 am. By making the breaks five to seven minutes and the big break where there are 30-40 minutes to have something to eat, we need to find 10 more minutes, and we will find this time. And you’ll be finishing the school day just as before
