Semyon Shapiro appointed Chairman of Belarusian Ice Hockey Federation

The Governor of Minsk region, Semyon Shapiro, was appointed the new chairman of the Belarusian Ice Hockey Federation.

He followed Igor Rachkovsy, who held the position previously.

It was reported during an election meeting held in Minsk. The new chairman of the Federation promised to propel Belarus’ ice hockey to a higher level.

Semyon Shapiro, chairman of Minsk Regional Executive Committee:
I have no doubts that an atmosphere of collective nature and respect will be created in the Federation, taking into consideration the opinions of the participants of the training process, including the team’s opinion as well.

I think that we will propel Belarusian ice hockey to a higher level.

A lot has been done in ice hockey already.

Follwing his new appointment Semyon Shapiro was later relieved of the post of the Chairman of the Minsk Oblast Executive Committee.

The previous chairman of the Belarusian Ice Hockey Federation, Igor Rachkovsky, has held the post since October 2014.

He explained that his decision to leave the post was influenced by the results of Belarus’ national ice hockey team at the Ice Hockey World Championship 2017 in Paris and Cologne.
