Belarusian IT startup team Scrawless into Imagine Cup 2017 semifinal

A Belarusian IT startup has reached the semifinal of Microsoft's prestigious international competition Imagine Cup. Every year thousands of students developers from all over the world take part in it. The best teams come to Seattle to compete for the top prize. This year, it has doubled and now amounts to $100,000. The winner, who will represent Belarus in Kiev in the semifinal, was determined in the Belarusian High-Tech Park.

To come up with an idea and create an innovative product is the essence of the international contest from Microsoft. Tens of thousands of young developers from around the world present their projects.

Anton Myakishev, head of the Microsoft office in Belarus:
I see that the Park is experiencing a new wave of its development, just like the IT industry of the whole country. Recently, a new head of the Park has been appointed. And I associate great hopes with this appointment. The President himself pays much attention to the development of the IT industry in the country. He is ready to provide any support that will be needed to make Belarus a digital power. And, of course, Microsoft cannot stay away from these processes.

The participant is given three minutes to present the project and two minutes to answer questions. It's hard. But the competition in the world of IT is now immense, with profits very high. Analysts are sure that 60% of GDP will soon be formed thanks to high technologies.

One of the projects has social purposes. Freshman Dmitry and his team created a tool helping children with fine motor skill problems to obtain knowledge. They cannot hold a pen but their desire for knowledge is like in ordinary children.

Dmitry Kuzmich, BSUIR student:
Our service replaces children's pen and notebook. Absolutely all homework and operations, like division or the creation of drawings, can be done on our portal.

There are about 7,000 children who face motor skills problems. Russia or the United States, there are tens of thousands of them. A significant social project will go to Kiev to the semifinal of the Microsoft competition. It is common knowledge that training in the field of IT allows you to achieve better results. This is one of the priorities of the company.

Vsevolod Yanchevsky, Director of the Administration of the Park of High Technologies:
We have very large-scale joint plans for cooperation. Education is one of the key areas of such cooperation. Education is the most important and key. This is the soil from which everything grows: both start-ups and companies. The sphere of education for IT is the foundation, the soil, the main aspect.

Full-scale launch of the project is planned for the end of August. But now the young developers are preparing for the presentation in Kiev. If they manage to reach the final, then in Seattle they will compete for the main prize of the contest - $100,000.
