Colorful fireworks end Victory Day 2017 in Minsk

Yesterday Belarus celebrated one of the most solemn holidays - Victory Day. Celebrations traditionally ended around midnight, with hundreds of thousands of Belarusians taking part in them across the country. A bright final chord of the holiday was a concert on Victory Square in Minsk and a fireworks display.

The campaign "Belarus Remembers!" was held during all these days. On Victory Square, people gathered with portraits of their late relatives.

A 3D show was a much-awaited event in Minsk. Projected right on the walls of the buildings surrounding Victory Square, the movie showed the years of WWII in Belarus, sorrow and pain, joy and glory.

Then a WWII-themed concert was held on the same square. "Victory Day", "Farewell of the Slav" and "Katyusha" sounded in the chilly Minsk sky, first of all for the main heroes of that war - veterans. Many could hardly hide tears.

30 festive sites worked in Minsk alone. The whole country celebrated the holiday with various WWII events - battle re-enactments, soldier's porridge, concerts and flower-laying ceremonies. Mass celebrations lasted almost until midnight.

At 22.55, the sky over Minsk was painted in the colors of chrysanthemums and acacias. 30 volleys were fired, exactly as in the distant 1945. The festive fireworks 70-meter-high fireworks could be seen from almost any point in Minsk.
