Belarus to take part in IMF, WB spring session in Washington

Belarus will participate in the spring session of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank in Washington, which starts on April 19. The Belarusian delegation includes the heads of the National Bank, the Ministry of Economy, the Ministry of Finance, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

It is expected that they will meet with representatives of the international financial organizations and hold negotiations on the conditions for granting financing to Belarus.

The parties have been engaged in a dialogue on the new country program for more than a year. The IMF may allocate a loan of $3 billion for 10 years. The loan rate may be just over 2%.

For a long time, the parties could not come to an agreement: difficulties arose because of the requirements of the IMF. The Fund insisted on drastic reforms that could hit the purse of an ordinary Belarusian, such as raising utility tariffs and reforming transport and the state-run sector. However, the sides did reach a compromise on key disputable issues.
