Belarus, Russia to boost security ahead of 2018 World Cup

On the eve of the World Cup 2018, Belarus and Russia will strengthen security measures. Representatives of the Union State met in Grodno to discuss migration policy. They talked about making adjustments to the existing legislation and the equal validity of driving licenses in both countries.

From June 1, only national driving licenses will be valid in Russia, while Belarus recognizes driving licenses of the international format.

In addition, the meeting participants discussed migration legislation in the tourist environment.

Nikolai Melchenko, Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Belarus:
We have a range of responses in relation to such careless tourists. We always welcome all of our guests, decent, conscientious. Therefore, these issues will also be discussed at the meeting of the working group.

Alexander Gorovoi, First Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation:
We will today identify practical measures of cooperation during World Cup 2018, an important event. We must clearly understand the migratory flows of third country nationals.

After the meeting the sides signed a protocol on amendments and additions to the agreement between the governments of Belarus and Russia on the use of a single sample of migration cards.
