Garlyk plant to produce 1.5 million tonnes of potash fertilizers annually

The Garlyk mining and processing plant. All the stages of construction and perspectives and other issues as well were discussed by Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko and Chairman of the Council of the Republic National Assembly of Belarus Mikhail Myasnikovich on March 28, 2017.

The construction of the Garlyk mining and processing plant in Turkmenistan

is a signal to the whole world about Belarus’ capabilities. Mikhail Myasnikovich was in charge of this project from the very beginning. The construction of the complex has already been completed. Garlyk Mining Plant is key to the economic and trade cooperation between Belarus and Turkmenistan.

It is the largest project in terms of the export of services. It is expected that it will produce up to 1.5 million tonnes of potash fertilizers annually.

The start of the Garlyk mining and processing plant will be given by Presidents of Belarus and Turkmenistan on the upcoming Friday.

Alexander Lukashenko will go on an official visit to this country.

Southeast of Turkmenistan is one of the richest potassium salts deposits. The ore reserves are estimated at nearly 3 billion tonnes.

The construction of the plant was trusted to Belarusian specialists.

It is probably the largest foreign project design in the entire history of sovereign Belarus. It is planned the plant will produce up to 1.5 million tonnes of potash fertilizers annually.

The Presidents of Belarus and Turkmenistan had said before that the construction of the Garlyk mining and processing plant is key issue in trading and economic cooperation between the two countries. It will cost about one billion dollars to build the plant.

A contract on building the plant was signed with the Belarusian side as far back as 2010. Results can already be seen today. Belarus has once again proved that

it wants and can build strategic facilities.

By the way, a lot of the equipment the plant has was made in Belarus. It means that not only Belarusian specialists made a name of themselves, but Belarusian plants showed their competitiveness.

Alexander Lukashenko, President of the Republic of Belarus:
In the nearest days I will be visiting Turkmenistan at the invitation of the President. There, we are finishing a huge construction project.

Belarus has built a mining and processing plant that will extract potash fertilizers.

And as far as I am informed, we've got first products. We have finally mastered this production, considering the fact that the Soviet Union did not dare do this kind of business, when research was underway there. It was a very complicated technology due to the subsoils there. But we did it. It means that we have solid technologies in this regard. It is a signal to the entire world that

Belarus can open any mine and mine not only potash fertilizers,

but any minerals using the mining method, not to mention open-pit mining.

For this reason, it was a very important project for Belarus, and it is good that we have completed it.

This meeting was held on the threshold of Alexander Lukashenko’s visit to Turkmenistan.

The presidents of Belarus and Turkmenistan will officially launch the Garlyk mining and processing plant on Friday.

It will be a new page in the history of cooperation between Belarus and Turkmenistan; it will also demonstrate the possibilities of Belarus on the building services market.

Mikhail Myasnikovich, Chairman of the Council of the Republic National Assembly of Belarus:
This is a unique facility. It was not possible to build a similar one during the Soviet times.

We, Belarusians, did this in the desert,

actually at the interface of Uzbekistan and Afghanistan. This is a powerful plant, which corresponds to the latest technologies. And I am not afraid to say, that it will be key for the countries of the Southeast.

By the way, Mikhail Myasnikovich is in charge of the sowing season in Brest region. Everything is done according to a clear plan. And Brest region is not falling behind the plan.

Nevertheless, Alexander Lukashenko entrusted to provide control over the work of the employees.

Alexander Lukashenko, President of the Republic of Belarus:
We agreed that such volumes of fuel will be supported from April 1, when Belarus will enter the sowing season. That’s why I signed all the documents, and extra fuel will be given from April 1. It doesn’t mean that something is going to fall down from the sky. Another thing that I want to draw your attention and which is especially important for the southern regions of Belarus is that

it will be very hot at the upcoming weekend.

And whatever we put in the soil now, it will grow very quickly. That is why we need to sow everything as quickly as possible.

As many as 2.5 billion hectares of land have been allotted for the sowing season.

What is more, all the regions of Belarus have already started sowing spring crops.

The 2017 sowing season began two weeks earlier than usual. It means that there are first records. The least the Belarusians can now do is to wait for a good harvest.
