The most powerful in Belarus, the Vitebsk hydroelectric power plant has been launched in test mode.
Specialists are now checking all of the equipment. It is able to withstand the most severe stresses giving consistently good results.
During the year, the station will produce 138 million kilowatt-hours of energy.
This is enough to meet the energy needs of all the Vitebsk region and part of the Vitebsk city. Clean energy of the HPP will save tens of millions of dollars.
Yuri Mitkovets, Deputy General Director of RUE Vitebskenergo:
Thanks to saving money we earlier used to buy organic raw materials, thanks to the reduction of emissions (it is also the burden on the budget) the savings can be up to $25 million a year from all of the three stations.
The project was financed thanks to a loan of the State Development Bank of China. Now the most powerful hydroelectric power station can light 5 million energy-saving light bulbs at one time.
