The European Broadcasting Union suggested transmitting Yulia Smoylova’s (representative of Russia) performance in the half final of Eurovision 2017 live via satellite. If the Russian participant makes it into the final of the contest, her performance in the final will be broadcasted in the same way.
This suggestion was published on the official website of the European Broadcasting Union and then sent to Russia’s Channel One.
refused the suggestion.
It was said on air of the TV channel.
Statement of Channel One:
We consider this suggestion strange and refuse it, because it certainly contradicts the idea of the contest, the main rule of which is live performance on the stage of Eurovision Song Contest. We believe that the European Broadcasting Union mustn’t invent new rules for the Russian participant in 2017 and is capable of holding the competition according to its regulation.
Representatives of Channel One emphasize that
the European Broadcasting Union has no claims against Yulia Samoylova.
According to the rules of Eurovision Song Contest, the hosting country of the competition must provide all the participants with an entry visa for the entire period of the event.
Reminding once again, the National Security Agency of Ukraine forbidden entry to the Russian participant of Eurovision 2017.
