Belarus and the Council of Europe have made significant progress in relations over the past two years. This is an assessment of the bilateral cooperation by the rapporteur on Belarus of PACE given at the meeting with chairman of the House of Representatives of Belarus National Assembly.
Andrea Rigoni noted that constructive dialogue and mutual understanding remain the main principles.
Andrea Rigoni, rapporteur of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe:
I want to say that we have built a lot more in the past two and a half years than in the last ten years. When we talk to each other quietly, then we compare all the issues that exist between us, and thus build relationships based on trust. As it should be.
Belarus is ready to develop cooperation with the Council of Europe, not only in the field of democracy and human rights. Mutual interest concerns questions of economy, investment, fight against corruption and human trafficking.
