Zhores Alferov turns 87: Belarus President thanks prominent scientist

Thanks to him, doctors can perform laser surgery and ordinary people can take full advantage of the Internet. Today Zhores Alferov is celebrating his 87th birthday.

Despite the fact that this legendary physicist is considered a native in about ten countries, it was in Belarus where Alferov was born and graduated from high school with honors.

Author of fifty inventions and more than 400 scientific publications, the scientist won the Nobel Prize in Physics in 2000. A year later, Alferov was awarded with Belarus Order of Francis Skaryna.

Endless devotion to science has led Alferov to politics. Here he is defending the interests of scientists. The President of Belarus congratulated the academician Zhores Alferov on his birthday.

Alexander Lukashenko thanked the scientific figure for the attention he pays to the strengthening of the Belarusian-Russian cooperation in the field of research, as well as for the support to young scientists.
