Permanent Representative of the Republic of Belarus to the OSCE, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to Austria Alena Kupchyna was nominated for the position of the Secretary General of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe. Altogether, there are five candidates for the post.
The first hearings took place in Vienna on March 14, 2017 during which the candidates projected the future of the OSCE.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus emphasized, that the decision to nominate a representative of Belarus for this post is explained by Belarus’ earnest desire to contribute to the OSCE’s consolidation. The role of this organization is once again important, due to today’s heated regional conflicts and growth of contradictions between global players.
The current Secretary General of the OSCE has been holding the post since July 2011. The term of his office ends in three months’ time.
