Belarusian and Russian troops began preparations for the exercises Zapad 2017 [West 2017].
During the drills, the parties intend to work out the coherence of military administration and interoperability of military units.
The large-scale exercises will be held in September in several ranges of Belarus and Russia. This will sum up the joint activities of the two countries in the past two years.
Oleg Belokonev, Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces - First Deputy Minister of Defense of the Republic of Belarus:
Of course, this training also has some research purposes. The first thing we are working on is interoperability of different governments, different controls. The second is of course to check the consistency in the work of task forces and of the composition of the joint command of battle groups itself. But most importantly, of course is to increase the level of interaction, because it is carried out in our country between all the components of the military organization of the Republic of Belarus.
