Belarusian fathers can be discharged from work with the right to take paternity leave. Such amendments are planned to be made to the Labour Code of the Republic of Belarus. An interdepartmental working group is looking into the issue of compulsory paternity leave. Therefore, men will obtain a lawful right to take care of their newborn children together with mothers.
Today every family can decide on who is going to look after the baby. However, in 99% of the cases it is mothers who take the responsibility to look after children.
Meanwhile, the birth rate in Belarus is increasing. More than 118,000 children were born in 2016. The leader of the birth rate is Minsk. Belarusian civil registry offices have made up a list of the top ten names parents choose for their children. It is fashionable to give such names as Anna, Darya and Sofia to girls. Alexander, Artem, Dmitry and Ivan are popular boy names.
