Germany welcomes the adoption by Belarus of the National Human Rights Plan, stated Bundestag deputies. Their delegation led by Bärbel Kofler held a meeting with Belarusian colleagues March 6.
The guests expressed their hope that the implementation of the document's norms will be successful and also noted the importance of public discussion of these norms.
Bärbel Kofler, Commissioner of the Federal Government of Germany on politics and human rights and humanitarian aid:
We understand that the implementation of the human rights standards plan takes time, because the document covers many issues: from death penalty to the raising of public awareness in this area. I note that the adoption of a national human rights plan will contribute to better cooperation between Belarus and the Council of Europe.
The first National Human Rights Plan was adopted by Belarus in October 2016. The document is a kind of road map in this area.
