Sports science largely determines the performance of Belarusian athletes at the most prestigious competitions. Their successes and failures on February 9 were analyzed at the Board of the Ministry of Sport and Tourism.
Among the hottest topics discussed was the preparation of Belarusians for the Winter Olympics in South Korea. All national teams will receive proper funding, the Sport Ministry assures. Based on past experience it will give special attention to the most successful directions.
Alexander Shamko, Minister of Sports and Tourism of the Republic of Belarus:
We have set up about 30 complex scientific groups to prepare for the Olympics. So here we are talking about a broad cooperation in all scientific and medical potential. Not only the Academy of Sciences but also the departments of sports, which are in regions and universities. Everyone has individual achievements. And thanks to this system we have managed to concentrate all this potential and direct efforts in the same direction. Therefore, we now have this system but it needs improvement.
The system of training of the national teams and reserve has recently changed significantly in Belarus. Main authority has been given to national Olympic training centers.
It is these very centers that must give the main effect and bring Belarus desired victories.
