Belarusians trust national media more than foreign ones, Information Minister says

The use of new technological solutions and integration of different media platforms are the main directions of the work of Belarus' Ministry of Information in 2017. The results of the ministry's activities and plans for 2017 were discussed on February 6 in Minsk.

In 2016, it managed to achieve good results. It overcame the tendency of reduction of book production. The level of confidence and ratings of national media are stable. According to the results of sociological research, the TV remains the main source of social and political information.

Lilia Ananich, Minister of Information of the Republic of Belarus:
Trust to Belarusian national media is high, it is higher than to Russian, foreign media. But we see a clear tendency of the Internet's stronger influence on public opinion. We ourselves must talk about ourselves; tell others how we live, what our objectives are. And a good example of this is the "Big conversation with the President", where a detailed, frank and open dialogue took place. And all these topics should be now covered by Belarusian media.

2016 was busy and eventful. Among the main topics were the All-Belarusian People's Assembly, the parliamentary elections 2016 and events dedicated to the Year of Culture. And here the Ministry of Information coordinated the work of newspapers, magazines, television, radio and Internet resources. In 2017, it is necessary to take measures to make the national content competitive and increase the number of Belarus-made TV programs.
