Petro Poroshenko instructs to convene emergency meeting of Ukraine contact group

The situation in the south-east of Ukraine is worsening. Ukraine's President Petro Poroshenko has urgently demanded to convene an emergency meeting of the trilateral contact group.

It is not clear whether it will be held in Minsk or in the format of a videoconference.

Earlier it was planned that the negotiators will take place in Minsk on February 1. The Foreign Ministry of Belarus confirmed on January 31 that it is strongly willing to contribute to the organization of the meeting.

Over the past day more than 70 attacks on territories, including the use of heavy artillery, were recorded in the contact zone. There are dead and wounded. The most tense situation is in the direction of the Donetsk region in Avdeevka.

Residents of two cities - more than 400,000 people - are without water, electricity and heating.
