Moreover, a significant part of this project was financed by the European Union.
Anatoly Lappo, chairman of the State Border Committee of Belarus:
We organized another project in the direction of the Belarusian-Ukrainian state border in 2016. It has enabled us to strengthen the technical component and to purchase equipment to protect the state borders. Nevertheless, if we talk in general, we got $3.6 million of international technical assistance in 2016.
Andrea Wiktorin, the head of the European Union representation in the Republic of Belarus:
The effectiveness of this project can not be reduced to the fact that we have helped build the infrastructure. This project aims to change the mentality and the provision of expert assistance. We hope for further cooperation with the Belarusian Border Committee.
