In 2021, Belarusians may once again witness the grand sports event - the World Ice Hockey Championship. However, unlike the similar competition in 2014, this time Minsk plans to host the landmark championship together with western neighbor Riga.
Naturally, many organizational details are still to be discussed, however, the sides have managed to make substantial progress. In particular, the championship logo has already been revealed.
Andrei Shorets, Minsk mayor:
I'm sure that this international event will be held in a very cordial and friendly atmosphere in Latvia and Belarus. I think fans will definitely enjoy it. And our chances to host the championship in 2021 are getting higher.
So far Finland has been the main competitor of Riga and Minsk in a dispute over the holding of the 85th Ice Hockey World Championship. The host country of the tournament will be revealed at the congress of the International Ice Hockey Federation in Cologne on May 19.
